In this spe­cial event at Thea­ter Phö­nix, the “Myth of Theuth” will be explo­red by a group of play­ers direc­t­ly from the thea­t­re sce­ne! Expe­ri­ence this per­for­ma­ti­ve pre­sen­ta­ti­on of the media-phi­lo­so­phi­cal board game, play­ed by actres­ses Hen­ri­et­te Hei­ne, Maria Lisa Huber and Sof­fi Schweig­ho­fer.

But when they came to wri­ting, Theuth said: “O King, here is some­thing that, once lear­ned, will make the Egyp­ti­ans wiser and will impro­ve their memo­ry; I have dis­co­ve­r­ed a poti­on for memo­ry and for wis­dom.” This is how it goes, the myth of the inven­ti­on of wri­ting by the Egyp­ti­an god Theuth, as descri­bed by the well-known Greek phi­lo­so­pher Pla­to in his work “Pha­edrus” from the 5th cen­tu­ry BC.

Mythos von Theuth is a play­ful explo­ra­ti­on of media theo­ries from anci­ent histo­ry to the pre­sent day. While wal­king through anci­ent Athens, up to seven peop­le gather dif­fe­rent media and get in touch with media-phi­lo­so­phi­cal cele­bri­ties from the anci­ent world to the pre­sent. Vilém Flus­ser dri­ves asi­de the tele­ma­tic socie­ty ad nau­seam, Lau­ra Mul­vey takes a joy­ful look at our memo­ry and Mar­shall McLu­han final­ly gets his well-deser­ved mas­sa­ge. Smart­pho­nes, news­pa­pers, Lego bricks, slee­ping masks, stamps, liqueur and other media are used through twel­ve uni­que sta­ti­ons.
