quitch, ely­mus repens, com­mon­ly known as couch grass, is a very com­mon peren­ni­al species of grass native to most of Europe, Asia, the Arc­tic bio­me, and north­west Africa. It has creep­ing rhi­zomes which enable it to grow rapid­ly across grass­land. It has flat, hairy leaves with upright flower spikes. Couch grass has become nat­u­ral­ized through­out much of the world, and is often list­ed as an inva­sive weed It is very dif­fi­cult to remove from gar­den envi­ron­ments, as the thin rhi­zomes become entan­gled among the roots of shrubs and peren­ni­als, and each sev­ered piece of rhi­zome can devel­op into a new plant. In August 2004 the art and cul­ture col­lec­tive qujOchÖ togeth­er with close artists moved in oppo­site the art muse­um Lentos in Linz. A small but cosy accom­mo­da­tion was adapt­ed and is now called quitch. This com­bi­na­tion between lab­o­ra­to­ry, work­shop and ate­lier is going to be the base for fur­ther pro­fes­sion­al and con­stant art and cul­ture work of the collective.

quitch is an exper­i­men­tal lab­o­ra­to­ry space, a mov­ing dis­course machine and and plea­sur­able polypho­ny in the monot­o­ny. quitch has sent out roots. quitch begins to spread ram­pant­ly. quitch makes Linz blooming.
