quitch, elymus repens, commonly known as couch grass, is a very common perennial species of grass native to most of Europe, Asia, the Arctic biome, and northwest Africa. It has creeping rhizomes which enable it to grow rapidly across grassland. It has flat, hairy leaves with upright flower spikes. Couch grass has become naturalized throughout much of the world, and is often listed as an invasive weed It is very difficult to remove from garden environments, as the thin rhizomes become entangled among the roots of shrubs and perennials, and each severed piece of rhizome can develop into a new plant. In August 2004 the art and culture collective qujOchÖ together with close artists moved in opposite the art museum Lentos in Linz. A small but cosy accommodation was adapted and is now called quitch. This combination between laboratory, workshop and atelier is going to be the base for further professional and constant art and culture work of the collective.
quitch is an experimental laboratory space, a moving discourse machine and and pleasurable polyphony in the monotony. quitch has sent out roots. quitch begins to spread rampantly. quitch makes Linz blooming.
