Lecture & Talk II:
Sexualized Tropes: virtual discrepancies of boobies ///
Rebecca Husemann (herzteile.org) ///
At 18:00 a reading circle will take place in preparation for the lecture & talk.
Samantha Fox Strip Poker, Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards, Sex Games, BMX XXX, GTA Hot Coffee Mod, Tomb Raider Nude Patches, Bone Craft. For quite some time qujOchÖ works in a reflexive manner on the issue of erotic, sexual and pornographic representations in computer games. In October 2013 a low budget exhibition entitled “PIXELPORNO 0.1 — a short journey through the history of computer*sex*games” was launched in this context in the former doll museum in Linz. It offered a short journey through the history of such computer games between 1980 and 2013, supplemented by media and gender theoretical set pieces.
Now the next development stage is launched: PIXELPORNO 0.2 deals with an more intense examination on the interfaces between science and art. Apart from reading circles and lectures an exhibition with works by international artists which have addressed that topic will therefore be opened on March, 27th 2015.
In a second lecture Rebecca Husemann will talk on virtual discrepancies of boobies. The fixation on boobies and an exaggerated erotic representation is often an indication for objectification in video games – therefore it is a pleasure for many designers which triggers remorse. Why do even game designers which are aware of oversexualization refer to this stylistic means?
Rebecca Husemann is studying communication and industrial design with focus on game design at the Braunschweig University of Art (HBK) and is a regular author for the game blog “herzteile”.
