Akira Kurosawa, director/author (* 1910, † 1998) not just a legend in Japan because of his imagery and narrative dynamics but is also a role model for many European and American directors. Therefore Kurosawa is regarded as the aesthetic forerunner for the western films (and spaghetti western) in the fifties and sixties. Movies like “The Magnificent Seven” (directed by John Sturges) or “A Fistful of Dollars“ (directed by Sergio Leone) are definitely based on works of this director/author.

Seven Samurai” is the most popular film directed by Kurosawa. It is a opulent epic with a total of three thousand participants and the director tells the varied and very dense story of a small Japanese village. qujOchÖ presents the film in the course of the filmplateau and analyses it in the ensuing discussion.
