Board game goes theatre! Free entry!
In this special event at Theater Phönix, the “Myth of Theuth” will be explored by a group of players directly from the theatre scene! Experience this performative presentation of the media-philosophical board game, played by actresses Henriette Heine, Maria Lisa Huber and Soffi Schweighofer.
But when they came to writing, Theuth said: “O King, here is something that, once learned, will make the Egyptians wiser and will improve their memory; I have discovered a potion for memory and for wisdom.” This is how it goes, the myth of the invention of writing by the Egyptian god Theuth, as described by the well-known Greek philosopher Plato in his work “Phaedrus” from the 5th century BC.
Mythos von Theuth is a playful exploration of media theories from ancient history to the present day. While walking through ancient Athens, up to seven people gather different media and get in touch with media-philosophical celebrities from the ancient world to the present. Vilém Flusser drives aside the telematic society ad nauseam, Laura Mulvey takes a joyful look at our memory and Marshall McLuhan finally gets his well-deserved massage. Smartphones, newspapers, Lego bricks, sleeping masks, stamps, liqueur and other media are used through twelve unique stations.
